Online Counselling

Therapy from your own home

Online counselling has all the benefits of in person counselling from the comfort of your own home, without the travel time and with the added bonus of a reduced fee.

For those who might struggle to make enough time for the drive or are just too far away from Somerset, or for those who would struggle to arrange childcare for every appointment, online sessions could be just what you need.

Convenient, and flexible and from the comfort of your own home these sessions take place in my state-of-the-art YouTube studio.

Details about my session fees and how to book can be found on my Booking page.

Online sessions have been found to have similar positive outcomes to face-to-face counselling and might be less daunting for those new to therapy.

I work with many clients in this way with great success so if logistics or cost are a factor give this way of working with me a go.

Online counselling Tips

Here are my top tips, in no particular order, for getting the most out of your online counselling sessions with me.

1

Limit the possibility of interruption as best you can

Put a ‘do not disturb’ sign on your door, put your phone on airplane mode, close any programs that may send notifications and reschedule deliveries if possible.
2

Find a private, comfortable space

Find somewhere quiet and comfortable where you will be able to sit, undisturbed for at least an hour.
3

Make sure your full internet speed is available

For a smooth connection it’s worth checking your computer isn’t running updates, streaming media or downloading files.
4

Familiarise yourself with the software

Try to get to know the various options and settings in the video calling software in case you need to change a view, swap mics or switch to headphones etc.
5

Lighting and positioning

It’s important that we can see each other and our facial expressions clearly. If you can position yourself in natural light with your face clearly visible, then please do so.
6

Close or minimise self-view

Once you are happy with how you appear on screen, I would encourage you to close the self view picture (as I will) so that we can better connect with each other and avoid the possibility of feeling self conscious or distracted.
7

Take a few minutes for yourself before we begin

If possible, try to have a quiet few minutes to yourself before our session begins.
8

Have a backup plan

Technology, as amazing as it is, can sometimes let us down. Have your phone nearby so that if for whatever reason we are unable to connect as planned, I will call you on the number you have given me.
