Common Questions About Therapy

Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions I’m asked about counselling and how I work. If your question isn’t covered here, please feel free to get in touch and I’ll be happy to respond, even if you’re just exploring whether counselling is right for you.

All sessions are booked securely through my online scheduling system. You can choose a time that works for you and pay by card at the time of booking. After your initial intake session, multiple sessions can be scheduled in advance if you’d like to reserve a regular slot.

Session fees vary depending on the selected therapist or coach. You can view current fees on the Booking Menu when selecting your therapist.

I hold a Diploma in Counselling from the University of the West of England (2011, BACP-accredited) and have over 20 years’ experience in mental health and therapy roles. I am also currently training in Psychosexual & Relationship Therapy.

Yes, if you are prepared to engage honestly and consistently. Just like physical fitness, emotional health requires effort and commitment. Counselling isn’t a quick fix, but when you put in the work, it can be one of the most worthwhile and life-changing investments you’ll ever make.

This depends on your situation and goals. Some people come for a handful of sessions and find that enough. Others choose longer-term, open-ended work. Many clients find that weekly or fortnightly sessions work best, though monthly check-ins are also an option once progress is established. My commitment is to support you for as long as you need, at a pace that feels right.

Yes. I offer evening sessions up until 8pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Yes. I work with clients across the UK and internationally via secure video calls. Many people find this more convenient and just as effective as in-person sessions.

The first session is a chance for you to share your situation in more detail and for me to explain how I work. It helps us both decide whether we’re a good fit to continue. We’ll also agree on whether sessions will be online or in person, and how often they will take place.

Not always, but sometimes it’s important. Understanding your background can shed light on your current challenges. We’ll explore it only if it feels relevant and helpful to you.

Yes, with rare exceptions. If I believe you are at serious risk of harming yourself or others, I may need to involve an appropriate person or authority. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.

Sometimes. While therapy is mainly about exploration and reflection, I will occasionally offer guidance, but only on topics I feel qualified to address.

Contact between sessions is mainly limited to practical matters like scheduling. In exceptional cases, extra support may be offered where needed.

Appointments can be rescheduled in the booking system. Refunds are given with 24+ hours’ notice; cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable.

Missed sessions are non-refundable. Late arrivals can usually still be seen, but sessions finish at the scheduled time.

It’s best to have a closing session rather than just stopping. This gives us a chance to reflect on your progress, tie up any loose ends, and say goodbye in a healthy, respectful way.
