About Marijke
I’ve been with my husband for 30 years. Not because it’s been easy, because we’ve done the work.
I’ve made mistakes, sat in therapy myself (both as a couple and individually), and learned that long-term committed relationships are the most fertile ground for personal growth we’ll ever encounter. They’re also bloody hard sometimes!
I work with people who want more than surface-level connection. If you’re struggling with intimacy, either emotional or sexual, I’ll help you understand what’s really getting in the way.
My approach is warm but direct. I believe in honesty, personal responsibility, and owning your own experiences, because that’s what actually works. You can’t have great sex or deep intimacy without being willing to be honest with your partner and with yourself.
I’m particularly drawn to working with couples and young people because these are pivotal moments: either you’re building something together or you’re learning how to be in relationship for the first time. Either way, I have extensive experience in both areas.
I’m also fluent in Dutch, so if that’s your first language, we can work in either English or Dutch.
How I WOrk
I use an integrative approach, which means I draw from different therapeutic models depending on what you actually need.
We are relational beings. How you relate to yourself shapes how you relate to everyone else. This sounds obvious, but most people don’t truly grasp it until they start examining the patterns they’ve been running for decades.
I help individuals and couples develop awareness of what strengthens their connections and what’s sabotaging them. This involves understanding the beliefs, fears, and coping mechanisms you developed (often in childhood) that made sense then but are causing problems now.
Through this work, clients develop greater honesty, authenticity, and intimacy, both with themselves and their partners. The result is often better sex, deeper emotional connection, and relationships that feel alive rather than obligatory.
Who I Work With
I have many years of experience in working with children, families and adults.
Specialist Areas of Interest
I work with couples who’ve lost connection and individuals struggling with intimacy. We explore how you relate to yourself and your partner, identifying patterns that aren’t serving you. Through this work, clients develop greater honesty and authenticity, restoring emotional and sexual intimacy. Great relationships require the courage to be present and honest about what you actually want and feel
I view addictive behaviours as strategies to avoid intimacy and emotional presence – both with yourself and others. Whether it’s substances, pornography, or other compulsive behaviours, addiction is often about escaping uncomfortable feelings. My approach helps clients build awareness of these patterns, developing the capacity to be present and make choices that foster genuine connection rather than escape.
Many intimacy issues stem from how we see ourselves. If you don’t believe you’re worthy of love or desire, you’ll unconsciously sabotage connection or settle for less. I help clients identify and challenge the beliefs that undermine self-worth. Through this work, you start seeing the patterns you’ve been running and choose something different, leading to healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
